Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for COPD

“Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy: An Alternative Approach to Treat Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.”

“COPD is a respiratory disorder characterized by abnormal inflammatory response of the lung to noxious particles or toxic gases; fortunately, is a preventable and treatable disease. Even though lungs have regenerative capacity, constant injury inflicted by external factors exceeds the capacity of auto renovation, causing the development of many respiratory diseases. Cigarette smoking has been firmly established as the most important cause in the development of COPD.

Pharmacology approaches to treat this condition focuses mainly on ameliorating the symptoms, rather than the causes; these include anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, theophylline and bronchodilators. Mesenchymal stem cell therapy can regulate the main causes and symptoms via reduction of apoptosis and oxidative stress, regeneration of damaged tissue and exhibition of paracrine effects.

This is described in the paper by GIOSTAR Mexico Laboratory Chief M.Sc. Diana Esquivel on her most recent work published in the journal Annals of Stem Cell Research & Therapy.

With stem cell therapy the lungs recover from pulmonary fibrosis, the fibrosis scar and stiff the air sacs of the lungs making it harder to breathe and reduce the volume of oxygen the lungs are capable of receiving. Stem cell therapy helps the body regenerate the tissue in the lungs, making it easier for patients to breathe and making them able to hold larger volumes of oxygen.

Stem cell therapy is a great alternative for patients who suffer from any muscular injury or have any degenerative disease. In GIOSTAR Mexico our goal is to provide stem cell therapy to give people a better quality of life, with personalized therapy for each patient.
